BASSETERRE, St. Kitts — Trinidad and Tobago is in mourning following the tragic death of Minister within the Ministry of Education, Lisa Morris-Julian and two others in an early morning house fire today (Dec. 16).
Reports from Port of Spain indicate that Minister Morris-Julian died at her home in Arima. Details about the blaze remain unclear as investigations are ongoing.
Tributes and condolences have been pouring in since the tragedy.
The Office of the Prime Minister confirmed Minister Morris-Julian's death and extended sympathies to her family.
Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley expressed his grief on social media, stating: “My family and I are devastated at the awful tragedy that took the lives of Lisa and her children. We extend our deepest condolences to the entire Morris-Julian clan as we join Arima and the national community in coming to grips with this shocking reality that we have lost more than we think we can bear.”
The tragedy occurred mere hours after Minister Morris-Julian and her husband had joined the national community in celebrating the Christmas spirit during an annual Christmas event.
“To have her and her children snatched away under such horrible circumstances makes today one of the saddest days of my life,” Dr Rowley wrote. “The PNM has lost one of our finest representatives. On behalf of our members and supporters I extend condolences from an organisation in shock and tears.”
