BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -- POLICE continue to seize illegal firearms and matching rounds of ammunition across the Federation in their bid to tackle the problem of crime and violence in the country.
Their latest effort led to the arrest and subsequent charging of Romeo Browne of Hermitage Village, Cayon, St. Kitts, for the offences of Possession of Firearm and Possession of Ammunition.
In a statement, police revealed that the infractions were committed on December 15 between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. During the execution of a search warrant at Browne’s residence, officers seized one Hi-Point firearm and nine .40 rounds of ammunition.
Browne was subsequently charged on December 17 at the Basseterre Police Station.
Over the last several months, the police force and other law enforcement partners have stepped up their efforts to rid the streets of illegal firearms and ammunition following a spate of shooting incidents.
For the year, the Federation reported 28 homicides. As part of measures to protect citizens and residents, law enforcement has increased patrols, stop-and-search operations, and the execution of search warrants.
