BASSETERRE, St. Kitts — AUTOPSIES will be conducted on two tourists who recently died in the Federation under suspected drowning circumstances, to determine their exact cause of death.
The incidents occurred on December 17 and 19, 2024, on St. Kitts, claiming the lives of Gemma Manegable from Canada and Vivien-Ann Hammond from South England, United Kingdom.
Police reported that on December 17, 2024, between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., Manegable, who was visiting aboard the cruise ship Oasis of the Sea, was found unresponsive in the water at Carambola Beach Club shortly after swimming.
She was brought to shore, where several attempts to resuscitate her were made, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two days later, on December 19, between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., police received reports that Vivien-Ann Hammond, a visitor aboard the cruise ship Spirit of Adventure Saga, collapsed and became unresponsive on the shore after swimming at Cockleshell Beach on the Southeast Peninsula.
Despite attempts to revive her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing, and autopsies will be conducted to confirm the exact cause of death.
