BASSETERRE, St. Kitts — JELANI Duncan and Tabari Roberts have been sentenced for their roles in the 2021 shooting deaths of Lamonte Heyliger of Shear Lane, McKnight, and Jahquan Merritt of Fort Thomas Road, McKnight.
Police reported that Duncan, 27, of Cabbage Tree, Cayon, and Roberts, 37, of Lower Thibou Avenue, McKnight, were sentenced to 29 years and 30 years in prison, respectively, for the crimes committed on January 11, 2021, at Lower Thibou Avenue, McKnight.
In a media statement, the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force confirmed that the sentences were delivered by His Lordship, Justice Patrick Thompson Jr. The police noted that Duncan had already served two years, 10 months, and 22 days while on remand, which was deducted from his overall sentence in accordance with sentencing guidelines.
Roberts, meanwhile, received a 30-year sentence for the offence of "Manslaughter Due to Provocation." He had served three years, 11 months, and eight days on remand, which was similarly deducted from his total sentence.
Both men were sentenced on December 19, 2024, at the High Court in Charlestown, Nevis.
