BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – GLOBAL attention is once again focused on aviation safety as another devastating plane crash has claimed at least 62 lives.
Reports from South Korea indicate that a plane with 181 passengers crashed at an airport in the Asian nation.
According to the BBC, the aircraft, a Jeju Air flight returning from Thailand, carried 175 passengers and six crew members when it went down.
Reuters reports that rescue efforts are ongoing, with at least two survivors already found. Meanwhile, NBC News confirms that of the 62 fatalities, 37 were women and 25 were men. Among the survivors are one passenger and one crew member.
The crash occurred between 9:00 a.m. and 9:13 a.m. local time in South Korea, which is approximately 13 hours ahead of St. Kitts and Nevis.
This tragedy comes just days after a separate plane crash in Kazakhstan that claimed 38 lives.
