BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AS part of an initiative to foster cross-border collaboration and marketing, officials from the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA), Dominica's Tourism Authority, are in St. Kitts and Nevis promoting the island's unique attractions and upcoming events.
With the Federation’s Carnival celebrations set to culminate on Thursday (January 2), the Dominica delegation is encouraging festival-goers to consider Dominica as their next destination for cultural festivities. Dominica's Carnival, "Mas Dominik," runs from January 18 to March 5, marking it as the next major regional event on the festival calendar.
Speaking with SKNVibes News, Monelle Alexis, Communications and Public Relations Specialist at the DDA, emphasized the value of cross-promotion among small island nations like St. Kitts and Nevis and Dominica.
“We understand that your market is very targeted. We want to invite Kittitians in particular to come to Dominica for Carnival,” Alexis said.
Dominica’s Carnival features 40 unique events spread across three months, designed to cater to diverse audiences. Unlike many other regional festivals, Dominica places a heavy emphasis on its rich cultural history, which is prominently displayed throughout its celebrations.
During their visit, the DDA team participated in Jouvert activities in St. Kitts and used the opportunity to highlight their upcoming events. Alexis revealed that the partnership will continue during Dominica’s Carnival, where St. Kitts and Nevis will also be promoted.
“So again, you know, cross-promotion, supporting each other's islands is amazing. At Discover Dominica Authority, we are very pleased to have forged this relationship with St. Kitts and Nevis, and we look forward to a fruitful, mutually beneficial relationship moving forward,” she added.
In addition to promoting Mas Dominik, the team is also marketing Dominica’s World Creole Music Festival, held annually during the last weekend of October, and the Jazz and Creole Festival, typically hosted in April or May.
The partnership could extend further, as St. Kitts has already announced its lineup for the 2025 St. Kitts Music Festival, opening the door for opportunities to promote this event during Dominica’s festivities. Alexis reiterated the importance of such collaborations:
“We have to be able to cross-promote. We cannot compete with big America and big China, but if we work together as a team, as a collective force, we can be remarkable in the region. So we have to forge these relationships.”
