BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AS the dust settles and troupes prepare to bring Carnival 2024/2025 to a close with the Last Lap Jam, Team Ultra is once again celebrating its dominance on the streets of Basseterre.
The group clinched the top prize in the Grand Parade with its Stories of the West Indies theme. Announcing the results this morning, Carnival Chairperson Shannon Hawley revealed that Ultra secured an impressive 693 points, earning the $25,000 cash prize.
In second place was Luxe Carnival with 673 points, receiving a $20,000 prize, while Zus took third place with 528 points, earning $15,000.
Underlining its dominance, Team Ultra also claimed the Section of the Year award with The Tale of Anansi by Ultra Carnival, scoring 120 points and walking away with a $5,000 prize.
The first troupe to launch its costume, Luxe Carnival, also captured the Spirit of Carnival title and a $5,000 prize.
In the individual categories, Ultra Carnival’s Nikira Nichols was crowned Queen of the Band with 663 points, while Ultra Carnival and Kajali Hanley Gumbs took the King of the Band title with 665 points.
The streets of downtown Basseterre were awash in a kaleidoscope of colors as five bands and their revelers danced and celebrated in the warm afternoon sun.
Carnival officials hailed the event as a resounding success, noting that it started on time and concluded promptly at 8:00 p.m.
