BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Federation remains in mourning after the tragic death of four-month-old Mekairi Edwards of Half Way Tree. Police have now formally charged Glenkeet Richardson of Wingfield Road, Old Road, St. Kitts, in connection with the infant's death.
In a statement, police confirmed that Richardson faces three charges stemming from the incident. These charges include: Causing Death by Dangerous Driving; Injuring a Person, T'an Phipps, by Wanton Driving; and Injuring a Person, Kadedra Lewis, by Wanton Driving.
The charges follow a car crash on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Johnson’s Long Path on the island's main road in West Farm. The accident shocked the nation, especially upon learning of Edwards’ death due to his injuries.
Police revealed at the time that based on the available evidence so far, it is suspected that his (Richardson) actions while driving were the cause of the death”.
The tragedy marks the 13th road fatality in the Federation within the past 12 months. Richardson was formally charged on January 14, 2025, at the Basseterre Police Station.
