CDB approves grant for strategic development in St. Kitts and Nevis

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) has approved a grant of US$132,000 for St. Kitts and Nevis to develop a "Medium-Term Development Strategy and Investment Plan" for 2025–2029.

The initiative aims to promote inclusive, resilient, and sustainable growth while aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the country’s National Development Planning Framework.

According to Acting Vice President of Operations at the CDB, Mrs. Therese Turner-Jones, the bank is committed to supporting St. Kitts and Nevis in crafting the tools necessary to achieve these objectives. "We remain steadfast in helping the government achieve its desired development outcomes," she stated.

In a statement, the CDB emphasized that the project is designed to build institutional resilience, strengthen governance, and enhance implementation capacity in the Federation.

The Ministry of Economic Development and Investment (MEDI) will oversee the project, which includes the creation of a monitoring and evaluation framework. This framework will incorporate a digital tool to track progress, ensuring better oversight of public investments. The CDB notes that this approach will improve resource allocation, enhance accountability, and maintain momentum for the strategy's implementation.

The government will contribute US$25,000 to the project. The development plan focuses on economic diversification, renewable energy transition, sustainable agriculture, education, social programs, and other critical areas. Special attention will be given to climate resilience, green energy transformation, human capital development, and gender equality.

CDB’s Director of Economics, Mr. Ian Durant, emphasized the importance of this project: "Our continued support aims to improve macroeconomic stability, increase productivity, competitiveness, and governance while protecting the most vulnerable and fostering economic diversification."

This initiative is part of the government’s broader sustainable development agenda for St. Kitts and Nevis.
