Correction issued by Ministry of National Security on Franklin Dorset

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts— THE Ministry of National Security has issued a correction regarding its earlier press release, which stated that Commissioner of Prisons Franklin Dorset had been placed on administrative leave following the recent legal troubles of his daughter.

     

    In an initial midday statement, the MoNS wrote: “The Ministry of National Security in the Government of St. Christopher and Nevis wishes to inform the general public that effective immediately, Commissioner of Corrections Mr Franklin Dorset, has been placed on administrative leave.”

     

    This initial release linked the decision to ongoing legal proceedings involving Commissioner Dorset's daughter, Shantrice Dorset, a Crown Prosecutor. She was charged on January 23, 2025, and subsequently remanded to His Majesty’s Prison.

     

    “This decision was made to uphold fairness and transparency following the recent legal proceedings involving his daughter, Crown Prosecutor Shantrice Dorset, who was charged on January 23 rd , 2025, and subsequently remanded to HisMajesty’s Prison. The Ministry of National Security is resolutely dedicated to ensuring transparency, fairness, and the steadfast enforcement the Federation’s laws.”

     

    However, by late afternoon, the Ministry revised its stance and issued an apology for any miscommunication.

     

    “The Ministry of National Security of St. Christopher and Nevis apologises for any miscommunication and clarifies that Commissioner of Corrections, Mr. Franklin Dorset, has not been placed on administrative leave but is on vacation leave. The Ministry remains committed to upholding transparency, fairness, and the enforcement of theFederation’s laws, ensuring impartial justice and accountability in all proceedings," the minstry said.
     

     

    Commissioner Dorset has faced criticism in certain sections of the media.
