Labour Secretariat

Upper Cayon 21 December, 2009 (Labour Secretariat) - The Labour Party Candidate for Constituency 8, the  Hon. Cedric Liburd highlighted the accomplishments of Mrs. Carol Smith of Upper Cayon during his presentation at a mammoth Labour Party meeting held in Cayon on Tuesday December 15.

The three term parliamentary representative congratulated Smith’s accomplishments as a single mother, who was able to purchase a plot of land and has been able to pay in full as a result of her prudence and hard work. Her gift for Christmas 2009, Liburd said, is the key to her own home built by the National Housing Corporation (NHC) on her land.

Liburd paid special attention to Mrs. Smith as “an example of the hard working men and women who have built this country. It is their hard work that allows us to develop this country even during the difficult global times. She is an example of how a caring a Labour Government and representative take  care of the people.”

Mrs. Smith is the mother of 5 children and is thankful for all the opportunities her family has received.

“Housing is not the only area working me,” she said. “I have a daughter who has graduated from the CFB College and from a university in the United States. So education is working for my family too.”

She believes that home ownership will be one of her greatest accomplishments in life second to motherhood. “I can now show my children what it means to have my own and take care of it.

“Mr. Liburd is right. A home of my own is a wonderful Christmas gift. This is proof that when you go to Mr. Liburd good things happen. Some people want him to work magic so that they get what they want right away but I know when you get the chance you must work hard. Mr. Liburd gave me that chance.”

The Smiths join over 3,000 families of St. Kitts and Nevis who have benefited from the Labour Party Administration’s housing solutions.

Liburd pledged that, in a next term, housing for the people of Cayon, Constituency 8 and the entire country will continue to be pursued.

“Housing under Labour has opened the way to greater opportunities for our people. It was only this year that the Caribbean Development Bank’s survey revealed that the poor housing conditions, in this country, have been significantly reduced in our nation. It is my aim as the minister of housing to eliminate such a condition.

“That is why I continue to say to the people of constituency 8 and to the nation I am your servant. So when a family can take possession of their own home, I am happy in the fact that their confidence in me has borne much fruit.”
