BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE are continuing their investigation into an undisclosed security incident at the Charles E. Mills Secondary School (CEMSS) on Friday (Feb 14).
As of Sunday evening (Feb. 16), law enforcement officials informed reporters that there were no new updates on the matter when questioned by SKNVibes News. "The matter is still under investigation," the police stated.
Details surrounding the incident remain unclear, including the circumstances (message content) that warranted the police presence at the school and the need for an extensive investigation.
However, in a press statement on Friday, police revealed that between 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m., authorities were alerted to a social media post alleging a planned criminal incident at CEMSS.
Following this discovery, officers were dispatched to the school to conduct a thorough search and ensure the safety of students and staff.
The Ministry of Education confirmed that it had been informed of the alleged threat. "The police’s response was swift. Officers were deployed to the school to secure the premises and conduct a thorough search of all learning spaces and the surrounding grounds, thereby ensuring the safety of all students and staff," the ministry stated.
The ministry further announced that face-to-face instruction at CEMSS will resume on Monday, February 17, 2025, and urged the public to support the police’s efforts and cooperate fully as investigations continue.
