BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER weeks of silence on the investigation into the death of Dr. Simoneth Williams, Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Adlai Smith has confirmed that the matter remains under active investigation.
In a statement today (Feb. 24), Smith stated that he has received the official autopsy report, which is now under careful review by both himself and a non-resident accident reconstruction expert assigned to the case.
That expert, he noted, has requested additional information to complete a thorough analysis. “That information is in the process of being supplied to ensure a comprehensive assessment of the circumstances surrounding this incident,” Smith said.
Dr. Williams, 29, of St. Peters, was struck by a vehicle on December 20, 2024, and later succumbed to her injuries. According to a police statement, the incident occurred between 11:30 p.m. and midnight along the island’s main road in New Road, near the fencing of the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport’s runway.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Dr. Williams was walking along the main road when she was struck by a vehicle.
"I am grateful to the valuable assistance and information provided by members of Dr. Williams' family who have played a crucial role in assisting me in this investigation. However, to strengthen the investigation, I'm appealing to the public for additional witness testimony,” Smith said.
Since the accident, several theories have emerged due to limited updates on the progress of the investigation. In response, the DPP has issued a public appeal for individuals familiar with the road conditions near the airport runway to provide statements to the police.
"I am also seeking information from any person who may have any helpful information regarding this case. If you are a patriot and willing to assist, please email my office at dppfeedback at kn.gov.
"That is dpp feedback at kn.gov with your contact information so that the necessary arrangements can be made," he said.
Smith urged the public to remain patient as the intricate and sensitive investigation continues.
“The circumstances surrounding Dr. Williams' passing necessitate a careful and comprehensive examination, and I will ensure that all available and relevant evidence is fully considered before making," added smith.
