Liburd says people power gives true confidence

Basseterre 21 December, 2009 (Labour Secretariat) - Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher 8, Hon. Cedric Liburd called a PAM release on SKNVibes, entitled Eugene Hamilton confident of Winning Constituency Eight as “another act of feeding misconception and lies to the nation.”

Liburd pointed out that the article was void of a credible source to support Hamilton’s confidence and that the twice failed candidate was seeking to peddle false hope in the minds of voters so that after the votes are counted, he could have ground to launch another attack on democracy.

“I have read the article and all it says is Hamilton is confident. I have not read that the people have any confidence in him, and the fact is they do not. The people are saying that his track record is poor.”

Liburd said, “On the other hand, the people have been saying that Cedric has delivered from Housing and Agriculture, the closure of the sugar industry, and even to my inclusive ways of serving the constituency and the country. They have confidence in my safer hands and clearer vision.”

Liburd says until Hamilton can base his confidence on the support of the people in all four districts of the constituency (St. Peter’s, Conaree, Key’s and Cayon), then his utterances are as empty as they are misleading.

The PAM article was released two days before a Caribbean Development Research Services Inc. (CADRES) release which also proved Hamilton’s confidence to be unfounded.

In the CADRES release, it was noted that “the SKNLP’s support had grown since our last poll in July of 2009 and that Labour’s support had tightened to the point where it could now confidently defend all of the seats it held”.
Constituency 8 Campaign CEO, Larry Vaughan, said Hamilton then would need to bring his research to refute this poll held less than one month ago.
“The people are saying not Hamilton and the pollsters are saying Cedric and Labour can confidently defend the seat. Mr. Hamilton is out in the cold, he knows it but wants to create an illusion of victory,” Vaughan said.

“Elections are all about the will of the people. They have experienced the personal difference that Cedric Liburd has made in their lives and it is significant to them. It is always unsound for anyone to criticize and say ‘that there have not been any significant improvements’ in this constituency,” Vaughan said.

Minister Liburd also said that only a candidate staring at failure in the eyes would want to use this shabby form of deception.

“Come what may,” Liburd said, “I will continue to be of the best service for the people of this constituency and the country and I will continue to earn the confidence of the people. True confidence comes from the people.”

With regard to the jab made by Hamilton on the generator, Liburd responded that he will seek legal advice on that bit of libel.
