BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - IN their endeavours to maintain the superior quality service offered to guests, management of Oualie Beach Resort has recognised its staff members who come into direct contact with visitors to the hotel.

This gesture took the form of the entity's 29th Employee Appreciation Award Ceremony held on the grounds of the resort on Friday, December 18, and the distribution of awards was the highlight of the evening’s proceedings which saw a number of staff members being honoured.

Itasha Saunders, Sandrine Nolan, Keyona Manners, Illma Warner, Pulmatti Ross and Sonia Percival were all recognised for their punctuality, but it was Steve Hobson, the bartender, who came under the spotlight. He was the recipient of the prestigious award - Employee of the Year.

Hobson, who has been with Oualie for just over a year, participated in a bartenders’ competition in St. Kitts earlier this year and placed second. His Runner-up was Michelle James and they were both lauded for their exemplary service to the resort, while Saunders and Yolander Brandy were awarded for being the Most Improved Employees.

Gloria Wallen copped the Supervisor of the Year award and Keyona Manners and Andrew Baron were presented special incentive awards.

The awards ranged from certificates to dinners, lunches, hotel stays and cash.

During the brief but impressive ceremony, General Manager Faith Bertie gave a synopsis of the resort’s major activities during the year. She complimented the members of staff for the high standard of service they maintained and what visitors to the property have become accustomed to.

Bertie reported that the hotel had held its own despite the repercussions being felt by the global economic downturn. She also impressed upon the staff the importance of maintaining exemplary standards as the competition for guests remains high.

Meanwhile, Managing Director John Yearwood had high praise for the employees for their unwavering commitment to the hotel during what he termed has been a challenging year. He also had high commendation for the resort’s management team and declared that reduced working hours at times did not affect the morale and spirit of the staff.
