Increase in ecstasy seizures in St. Kitts and Nevis

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE presence of illicit drugs in St. Kitts and Nevis continues to grow, with law enforcement reporting another arrest related to ecstasy.

Police announced today (March 19) that Lennox Smith, a resident of Cayon, has been charged with Possession of a Controlled Drug to wit Methamphetamine (Ecstasy), and Possession with Intent to Supply to wit Methamphetamine (Ecstasy).

According to the police statement, the offenses were committed on March 13, 2025, at Ogee Ghaut, St. Peter’s, and Smith was formally charged the following day at the Basseterre Police Station.

Reports from SKNVibes News indicate that authorities have been tracking the circulation of ecstasy in the Federation, raising concerns about its increasing availability. Over the past year, sources have suggested a growing market for ecstasy, particularly among young people.

This has sparked discussions about the drug potentially making its way into schools, prompting heightened awareness among educators and law enforcement. However, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Cromwell Henry has stated that there is no substantial evidence of widespread use or distribution among students.

"At this time, no drugs of this nature, including ecstasy, have been found in schools, nor have there been any specific incidents reported involving teenagers in connection with these substances. The police remain vigilant and collaborate closely with schools to ensure that our youth are protected from exposure to illicit drugs,"DCP Henry told SKNVibes News.

Authorities have also confirmed that there is no evidence of local production of ecstasy, and past incidents have been limited to isolated arrests.
