More ammunition seized by Police in Conaree

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE have seized more than a dozen rounds of assorted ammunition in the Conaree area, acting on a tip-off from the public.

On April 6, 2025, officers from the Special Services Unit (SSU) and the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) conducted a search of a vacant lot in Conaree, St. Kitts. The operation led to the discovery of 19 rounds of mixed ammunition.

According to police, the find included six .45mm rounds, eight .38 Special rounds, and five .25mm rounds.

This seizure comes as the police ramp up efforts to remove illegal firearms and ammunition from the streets. Last year, the Federation recorded a high number of homicides (28), the majority of which involved the use of firearms.

Historically, St. Kitts and Nevis has averaged double-digit homicides annually, with over 75 percent committed using guns. This troubling trend has sparked growing concern among residents, many of whom are questioning how these weapons are entering the country.

While the recent seizure is a positive step, attention now turns to whether authorities will make progress in identifying and prosecuting those responsible for smuggling firearms and ammunition into the Federation.

The RSCNPF urges anyone with information related to this incident or any other ongoing investigations to contact the nearest police station.
