Police seize $1.1 million in drugs at Major's Bay

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE have made another significant drug bust as part of ongoing efforts to crack down on narcotics distribution in the Federation.

On April 6, officers discovered a substantial quantity of cannabis during an operation at Major’s Bay on the Southeast Peninsula.

According to a statement from the Police Force's Public Relations Office, officers acting on intelligence executed a search in the area, which led to the discovery of 38 packages containing compressed vegetable matter. The substance was later confirmed to be cannabis.

In rersponse to SKNVibes News questions this morning, Deputy Commissioner Cromwell Henry reported that the packages weighed a total of 94 pounds (43 kilograms), with an estimated street value of EC $1.1 million.

While the laws surrounding marijuana possession have been somewhat relaxed in recent years, the transport and distribution of large quantities remain criminal offenses.

This latest seizure adds to a series of significant drug interceptions in recent years. Just last month, police charged Aniyah Fagan of Buckley’s Courtyard with seven offenses related to the importation of the synthetic drug Ecstasy.

In another notable case, back in October 2022, police intercepted a vessel from Trinidad and Tobago docked in St. Kitts carrying a large quantity of cannabis and cocaine.

Earlier, in 2016, authorities seized 136 kilograms of cocaine aboard another vessel. In that case, police reported that no arrests were made at the time.

Authorities continue to urge the public to report suspicious activities as efforts to combat drug trafficking persist across the Federation.
