BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE efforts to curb the influx of illegal drugs, firearms, and ammunition into the federation continue, with Kriston Liburd of Stoney Grove being the latest individual charged in connection with a drug importation case.
According to the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF), Liburd is facing four charges after contraband was discovered at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport on April 8.
In a statement issued by the Police Force's Public Relations Department, it was revealed that officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit responded to a report from the Customs and Excise Department regarding a suspicious bag.
Customs officials had flagged a piece of luggage belonging to Liburd, which, upon inspection, was found to contain a package of vegetable matter. The substance was later confirmed to be cannabis.
Liburd was arrested and subsequently charged on April 10 at the Basseterre Police Station with the following offences:
- Importation of Cannabis
- Submitting a False Declaration
- Importation of a Restricted Good (Cannabis)
- Importing Goods Packed in a Manner Intended to Deceive a Customs Officer
This arrest comes shortly after the police reported the seizure of over 90 pounds of marijuana along Majors Bay, valued at approximately EC$1.1 million.
