BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE in Belize have confirmed that an American national was shot and killed after attempting to hijack a small aircraft carrying at least 14 people at knifepoint.
According to reports from Belmopan, three individuals were injured during the incident, which occurred earlier today.
The Belize News Network identified the suspect as Akinyela Sawa Taylor. He allegedly demanded fuel and ordered the pilot to fly out of the country.
Taylor was reportedly shot in the chest and killed by another passenger onboard during the attempted hijacking.
Authorities confirmed that three Belizean nationals sustained injuries.
