By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts — THE Ministry of Education (MOE) is providing support to a student involved in a recent incident at Washington Archibald High School (WAHS), which has drawn national attention.

While details surrounding the incident remain unclear, the situation has sparked broader concerns about the level of mental health support available to students across the Federation.

Last week, photos and videos circulated on social media showing a student receiving attention on the school grounds. Police were later called to the institution.

In an update to the media on Tuesday (May 13), the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force confirmed that officers responded to the incident on May 8, 2025, after receiving information about a student at WAHS.

Although no formal report was made to the police, a spokesperson said, "the nature of the information prompted an immediate response to ensure the safety and well-being of the child".

The police further indicated that the matter falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education, which is “actively managing the situation.”

In its own statement, the Ministry confirmed it is "actively providing support in response to a student -incident" at the Washington Archibald High School (WAHS), which occurred on May 8, 2025.”

“We are committed to ensuring that schools serve as safe environments for all students and staff. The Ministry of Education’s guidance counselling network will continue to provide support at the school level for all students and staff. As we navigate this sensitive matter, we express gratitude for the outpouring of public concern and well wishes. Let us continue to be empathetic and understanding about the family’s need for privacy,” the statement read.

Both the Ministry and the Police have urged the public and media to respect the privacy of the student and her family during this time.
