The UWI Global Campus, Barbados. Monday, May 19, 2025 — The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Global Campus anticipates the launch of its annual CXC-CSEC Summer School 2025, set to begin in mid-July. Now in its 46th year, this longstanding programme continues to prepare students for Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) examinations by offering an extensive and captivating curriculum.
This initiative strategically aligns with The UWI Global Campus’ mission and vision to provide accessible and high-quality education. The establishment of the CXC Summer School forty-six years ago is a testament to the Campus’ unwavering commitment to fostering academic excellence and enhancing student success within the Region. Designed to empower students to excel in their examinations and beyond, the programme offers expert instruction, personalised support, and interactive learning to help strengthen skills, deepen understanding and boost confidence.
Under the theme "Reimagine Learning: Connect, Strengthen, Grow”, this year’s programme is designed to create a level playing field where students from diverse backgrounds can rethink their learning experiences. Learners will:
· Connect by fostering peer-to-peer and peer-to-instructor relationships through interactive lessons, group activities, and mentorship.
· Strengthen both academic and social-emotional skills across distinct, yet holistic subject domains.
· Grow beyond their exams, building resilience, confidence, and a foundation for lifelong success.
The CXC Summer School will run for six weeks, from July 14 to August 15, 2025, and will feature intensive classes, workshops, and extracurricular activities. The programme is designed to cover twelve core CXC subject areas, along with personal development and enrichment activities, for a well-rounded and engaging learning experience.
Speaking on this year’s programme, Mr Ryan Byer, Head, The UWI Global Campus Sites, Barbados, stated that “The team has been in the planning stages since March, and we are brimming with excitement about this year’s programme. We have reviewed our lessons learnt from last year’s summer programme, and a number of changes and improvements have been made. We therefore truly anticipate a programme that is educational, informative and engaging.”
The programme also aims to partner with several private sector organisations in Barbados to sponsor awards for outstanding students who excel in the core subject areas and for the secondary school with the highest registered participants.
