BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Sandy Point Benevolent Society (SPBS) has strengthened its commitment to the continued development of the Sandy Point High School (SPHS) with a donation of top-of-the-line computers for the principal and staff of the school.

The benevolent society, an alumni association of SPHS graduates residing mainly in the United States, has made donations to the school in the past specifically to advance studies in science, but this year’s donation is made for the benefit of management.

The group presented an HP notebook computer with a 17-inch monitor and a DELL photo smart all-in-one ink jet colour printer to the principal’s office and a COMPAQ desktop computer with a flat screen monitor and laser printer for the staff.

In a brief handing-over ceremony held yesterday (Dec. 30) on the school compound, SPBS President Trevor Hanley explained that one of the primary aims of the group is to enrich the educational experience at Sandy Point High, for both the staff and student body.

“Some of the things that we have contributed to the school over the past 15 years were equipment for the science lab, books for the library, PA systems and overhead projectors to be used in the classrooms. Today, it gives the group great pleasure in presenting one laptop, desktop and printer for the staff to use. It is our desire to give our continued support to the school for items needed as we go forth,” Hanley informed.

Principal of the institution Lorozine Williams told SKNVibes that she feels a “great sense of pride” when past students make significant sacrifices to give back to the high school.

“The contribution that they have been making to the SPHS will significantly enhance the relationship between staff, students and the general community. I feel that other persons who are looking on can also make a significant contribution to schools and institutions. Corporate citizens can come on board and assist with the growth and development of students in general,” Williams said.

The principal encouraged other past students to continue donating to the school to keep the standard of education high. She assured the society’s representative that the donations will be used to advance the development of students and teachers.

Past donations by the SPBS include a US $3000 package in support of the Principal’s Award, full size human skeletons, a chemical water distillation machine, a public address system, photocopier and overhead projectors for the computer labs.

The organization is now a legal non-profit US corporation and is registered in the State of New York. For more about the SPBS, visit www.spdsinc.org .
