BASSETERRE, St. Kitts — AFTER months of anticipation, the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) has officially confirmed that Dr. Marc Williams has been appointed as its new Executive Director, effective June 2, 2025.
Dr. Williams, a former government director and political candidate, succeeds Mr. Milton Haughton, who retired in December 2024 after serving the CRFM since its establishment in 2003.
The announcement comes as no surprise, as speculation had been circulating in the media about Dr. Williams’s selection following his exit from politics and a shift in position by the new administration.
At the time, SKNVibes News contacted Dr. Williams for a comment. While he confirmed the appointment, he chose not to speak publicly until the CRFM made an official announcement.
“Building upon the foundation established over the past two decades, Dr. Williams will now lead the charge for providing technical, consultative and advisory services to seventeen (17) CRFM Member States in the development, assessment, management, and conservation of marine and other aquatic resources,” CRFM said in a media statement.
Dr. Williams’s first official engagement as Executive Director will be representing the CRFM at the upcoming United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice, France, on Monday, June 9.
He is also scheduled to deliver a keynote address at a side event hosted by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda titled: "Blueprints for the Future: Marine Spatial Planning, Financing, Ocean Data-Driven Decision Making, and Global Cooperation."
