BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE are investigating a robbery at a Chinese-owned supermarket in Trafalgar Village, where a lone gunman made off with an undisclosed sum of cash and merchandise.
According to a statement from the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, the incident occurred around 9:43 p.m. on the evening of Tuesday, June 3, 2025. A masked man entered the supermarket, brandished what appeared to be a firearm, and demanded money before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, no one was injured during the robbery.
Surveillance footage from the store is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation. The suspect is described as a slim-built male, wearing a black mask and gloves, a maroon and black jacket, and brown pants.
This robbery is the latest in a troubling trend. Over the past year, several Asian-owned businesses—particularly Chinese supermarkets—have been targeted by criminals.
The Police Force is calling on the public for any information that may help identify or locate the suspect. Anyone who witnessed the incident or saw suspicious activity in the area is urged to come forward.
In a message to the business community, the police also offered a reminder: “to review and enhance their security protocols regularly. Consider implementing or upgrading surveillance systems, ensuring adequate lighting inside and outside your premises, and establishing clear procedures for handling cash. Keeping only a minimal amount of money on the premises and training staff in robbery prevention and response procedures can significantly reduce the risk of such incidents and enhance overall safety”.
