BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, 5th June, 2025 — In a continued effort to build stronger partnerships in the fight against crime and violence, the Citizen Security Secretariat (CSS) has reaffirmed its commitment to engaging stakeholders where they are. On 4th June, 2025, Coordinator Eartha Carey and Research and Data Analysis Officer Hance Richards made a presentation to the St. Kitts-Nevis National Council on Drug Abuse Prevention, serving as both an introduction to the Secretariat and the start of what is expected to be a productive, long-term collaboration.
The CSS is part of the Government’s strategic approach to enhancing safety and security across the Federation. By actively reaching out to both governmental and non-governmental bodies, the Secretariat seeks to foster cooperation, share data-driven insights, and align on programmes that reduce crime and build community resilience.
“This presentation wasn’t just about informing—it was about forming connections that benefit the bigger picture,” said Carey. “We plan to continue engaging a wide range of stakeholders, whether in government or the private sector—even if that means going directly to them.”
The Secretariat’s strategy of “meeting people where they are” reflects its hands-on approach to crime prevention in St. Kitts and Nevis. Rather than waiting for community organisations and partners to come forward, the CSS is proactively initiating conversations and aligning efforts with groups already involved in public health, youth development, and social outreach.
The recent presentation to the National Council on Drug Abuse highlighted the intersection of substance abuse prevention and community security, two areas deeply linked in the broader fight against crime. Through these engagements, the Secretariat aims to ensure that resources are used efficiently, efforts are not duplicated, and outcomes are measurable.
As the Citizen Security Secretariat continues to make its presence felt across the Federation, its mission remains clear: to support a safer, more cohesive society through strategic partnerships, informed policies, and grassroots engagement.
