St. Kitts & Nevis, May 27, 2025 — On Saturday, May 24, the Alliance Française of St. Kitts & Nevis proudly hosted the closing ceremony of the Naturally Learn French project, a six-month educational and cultural journey that brought together language learning, environmental awareness, and international exchange.
Held at the Alliance’s headquarters, the event celebrated the achievements of twelve dedicated and curious young participants who embraced a unique and enriching approach to learning French — not only through traditional classroom instruction but also through immersive, real world experiences.
“It is a great pleasure and a proud moment for us at the Alliance Française of St. Kitts & Nevis to gather here today to celebrate the successful completion of the Naturally Learn French project — a dynamic journey of language, culture, and environmental discovery,” said the Alliance team in their welcome address.
The project, made possible through the generous support of the Embassy of France to the Eastern Caribbean States, Barbados, and the OECS, offered weekly French classes entirely free of charge to 12 teenagers. However, its impact extended far beyond the classroom. Each month, participants engaged in hands-on, environmentally-themed cultural activities — from exploring local ecosystems to creating eco-conscious art — deepening their understanding not just of the French language, but also of global environmental issues and the cultural values that frame them.
One of the program’s highlights was a digital cultural exchange with students in Guadeloupe, facilitated in collaboration with the Guadeloupean Association DJtal. This cross-cultural correspondence enabled the young learners to use their developing French skills in real conversations, connect with Francophone peers, and experience the power of international friendship.
Special recognition was also given to the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Social Development and Gender Affairs, whose guidance and collaboration were vital in identifying and supporting the project’s participants.
This initiative forms part of a larger mission embraced by the Alliance Française, including the Green Alliance project supported by the Global Environment Facility’s Small Grants Programme. These efforts seek to integrate language learning with cultural exchange and environmental responsibility — nurturing not only better students, but also more compassionate and informed global citizens.
As the ceremony concluded, the message was clear: initiatives like Naturally Learn French represent more than education — they are a step toward building a more connected, conscious, and cooperative world.
