Silver Airways shuts down operations

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

MIAMI, Florida — AFTER filing for bankruptcy in December, South Florida-based Silver Airways has officially ceased operations, leaving many travelers in limbo as the company attempts to restructure.

Passengers across the Caribbean, including those in St. Kitts, were caught off guard by the airline’s sudden announcement on Wednesday morning.

In a notice circulated to customers, the airline said:  “We regret to inform you that we are ceasing operations as of today, June 11, 2025. In an attempt to restructure in bankruptcy, Silver entered into a transaction to sell its assets to another airlines holding company, who unfortunately has determined to not continue Silver’s flight operation in Florida, the Bahamas and the Caribbean.”

The airline also urged passengers not to go to the airport, though SKNVibes News understands that some travelers still showed up at RLB International Airport in an effort to check in for their flight.

Silver assured customers that all credit card purchases should be refunded through their card issuer or travel agency.

The abrupt shutdown has caused confusion and frustration among regional travelers. In response, InterCaribbean Airways has stepped in to assist some of its impacted customers.

“To support affected passengers, interCaribbean Airways is offering rebooking assistance for travelers with bookings to and from San Juan, Tortola, or Dominica," the airline said in a statement. "Customers may visit any of our airport locations or contact customerservice@intercaribbean.com for help arranging alternative travel,.”

Travelers from Sint Maarten were also impacted by the fallout. InterCaribbean noted that passengers flying between San Juan and Sint Maarten (SXM) can travel to Tortola and receive assistance with onward connections, including with Winair.

"Our teams in Tortola, San Juan, and Dominica are fully briefed and ready to assist Silver Airways customers in navigating next steps during this unexpected transition," the airline added.
