WASHINGTON, DC — AVIATION officials around the world are investigating the tragic crash of an Air India flight that went down shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, India, en route to London.
The aircraft, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, reportedly crashed into a residential area housing medical personnel, known as the doctors’ quarters. According to initial reports from CNN, the plane was carrying 242 passengers at the time of the accident.
Emergency response teams have so far recovered at least 100 bodies, and many more passengers are feared trapped in the wreckage. Authorities have stated that there are not expected to be any survivors.
Passengers on board are believed to include citizens from India, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Portugal. The UK Foreign Office released a statement confirming the crash: “We are aware of a plane crash in Ahmedabad. The UK is working with local authorities in India to urgently establish the facts and provide support to those involved.”
In London, a reception center has been set up at Gatwick Airport to assist relatives of those on board.
While the cause of the crash remains unknown, aviation experts and investigators are working to piece together what went wrong. The incident has sent shockwaves through the international travel community, particularly as the Boeing 787 is known for its strong safety record.
