WASHINGTON, D.C. – RESIDENTS of St. Kitts and Nevis could soon face new travel restrictions to the United States, according to a leaked U.S. State Department memo listing the Federation among 36 countries under review.
The memo, reportedly signed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, was obtained and published by several major news outlets, including The Independent, The Washington Post, and Reuters. It outlines a proposal by the Trump administration to impose travel bans on countries that allegedly fail to meet U.S. visa and immigration screening standards.
According to Reuters, the targeted nations have not met certain benchmarks set by the State Department—particularly regarding the thorough screening of visa applicants and cooperation in deportation matters.
The U.S. government has increasingly prioritized immigration enforcement, with deportation becoming a central policy focus. Recently, nine individuals were deported from the United States to St. Kitts and Nevis, further highlighting the administration's tough stance.
While SKNVibes News has not independently verified the contents of the memo, media reports indicate that U.S. authorities have expressed concerns about the lack of timely sharing of information and documentation, as well as limited cooperation from some governments in accepting deported nationals.
The memo reportedly provides a 60-day window for countries to comply with the outlined requirements. Failure to do so could result in either partial or full travel bans for citizens holding passports from the affected nations.
In the Caribbean, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, St. Lucia, and St. Kitts and Nevis are among those reportedly named for this round of travel restrictions.
