Man accused in deadly attacks on Minnesota lawmakers arrested after two-day manhunt

WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. authorities have confirmed the arrest of Vance Luther Boelter, the man accused of launching a deadly, "politically motivated attack" on two Democratic Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses over the weekend.

Boelter was taken into custody last evening (Jun. 15), ending a two-day manhunt that began after the violent assaults early Saturday (Jun. 14) morning.

Authorities allege that Boelter, disguised as a police officer, first targeted State Senator John Hoffman and his wife at their home around 2:00 a.m. He then went to the residence of State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband shortly after, at approximately 3:35 a.m. Hortman and her husband were fatally shot during the attacks.

Police responded quickly to the scenes and engaged the suspect, who managed to flee. Over the weekend, investigators discovered Boelter’s vehicle, which had been modified to look like a police cruiser. Inside, they reportedly found a list of additional Democratic lawmakers who may have been intended targets.

Authorities later located Boelter in the western part of the state. He was reportedly still armed at the time of his arrest.

According to the BBC, Boelter is expected to be arraigned this afternoon on two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree attempted murder.
