BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AS the search continues for missing 15-year-old Janelika Romney, who was last seen on June 16, 2025, political leaders across the Federation are expressing concern and urging the public to assist in ensuring her safe return.
Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew voiced his concern in a social media post, stating: “I urge everyone, especially those in and around New Guinea, to remain alert and report any information to the nearest police station. Your assistance could make all the difference.”
Romney, a student of Verchilds High School, was last seen wearing her school uniform on the afternoon of June 16. Police have since issued a missing person’s bulletin, describing her as approximately 5 feet tall with a slim build.
Government Minister and Parliamentary Representative for the New Guinea area, Samal Duggins, also took to social media, expressing deep concern over her disappearance.
“I share in the concern and distress that this news brings. I urge everyone, especially those in and around New Guinea to remain vigilant and do everything possible to assist the police in locating Janelika," he said.
Azard Gumbs, Deputy Political Leader of the People’s Action Movement and a candidate for the area, joined others in the ongoing search. In a message posted online, he shared:
"We continue to pray for Janelika’s safe return, and we lift up her family and loved ones during this heartbreaking time. May they find strength, comfort, and hope in the days ahead.”
The police have assured the public that active search efforts are underway and that updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
