Police confirm EC$7,000 reward for missing teen as intelligence suggests she is alive

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -- THE Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) has confirmed that it is actively investigating the disappearance of 15-year-old Janelika Romney of New Guinea, St. Kitts, who was last seen on Monday, June 16, around 3:40 p.m.

In a statement issued on Saturday, police disclosed that credible intelligence indicates Janelika is still alive and may be in contact with several individuals—some of whom are known to her. However, law enforcement expressed frustration that many of those interviewed during the investigation have been either uncooperative or deliberately misleading. This lack of cooperation, the police emphasized, has significantly hampered efforts to locate the teenager and ensure her safety.

"This insensitive lack of cooperation has delayed progress and continues to hinder our efforts to ensure Janelika’s safety and well-being," the statement read.

To encourage public assistance, the RSCNPF is offering a reward of EC $7,000 for credible information that leads to Janelika’s safe return or confirms her current whereabouts. Authorities are urging anyone with knowledge of her location or movements since June 16 to come forward immediately.

A coordinated search operation began at 6:30 a.m. Saturday in the New Guinea area and involved a wide cross-section of support personnel and volunteers. The operation was led by Inspector Marvin Thompson and Corporal Jefferson, and included officers from the RSCNPF, members of the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services, and soldiers from the Defence Force.

Search teams canvassed areas stretching from New Guinea to Half Way Tree, including Brimstone Hill. The operation later shifted to Dieppe Bay, where searches extended from the Gibbons area to the horse track.

Aerial support was provided by Mr. Wendel Pemberton of Wasp Security, who deployed drone technology to assist in the effort.

Despite the extensive search, which concluded around 10:30 a.m., there were no significant discoveries or leads.

Earlier that morning, between 3:00 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., police executed several search warrants at properties in Dieppe Bay, Parsons, and St. Paul’s. These operations, aimed at finding Janelika or uncovering relevant evidence, also yielded no new developments.

The search saw the participation of students from the Verchilds and Charles E. Mills Secondary Schools, members of Janelika’s family, and other concerned citizens.

Also joining the effort were the Hon. Samal Duggins, Parliamentary Representative for the area; Mr. Azard Gumbs of the People’s Action Movement; and Ms. Mandecia Marsham of the People’s Labour Party.

Authorities continue to appeal for public assistance and reiterate that any credible information could be key in bringing Janelika home safely.
