BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JANUARY 2ND 2010 (CUOPM) – The Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis cannot risk the disruption of the existing political, economic and social stability through experimentation and dramatic changes in policy at this critical and challenging juncture in its history.

That’s the message from St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister, the Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, who warned that the achievements of the nation and individual citizens could disappear overnight by gambling with the future through the implementation of an inappropriate policy framework.

Dr. Douglas, who as the Political Leader of the governing St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party seeks a renewal of his mandate to lead the twin-island Federation said he will have an opportunity to expound on the policies, initiatives and programmes in the months ahead “as I offer myself and my team to again serve you as your Government for the next five years.”

The St. Kitts and Nevis Leader said the last five years have been very challenging “but we have overcome crisis after crisis and have kept our country on a path of growth and development.”

“We have worked exceedingly hard as a people to attain the heights that we have achieved,” said Prime Minister Douglas, who added: “Over the Christmas season, many of our visitors expressed great surprise at our continuing progress in the face of the global crisis and the range of new projects that had been implemented in recent years.”

“The global crisis and the way it has proceeded in many countries, has taught us that all of our achievements, all of the resources that we have accumulated as a country and as individual citizens could disappear overnight by gambling with our future through the implementation of an inappropriate policy framework,” said Prime Minister Douglas in his traditional New Year’s message to the nation.

He urged all citizens and residents to join him and his team to protect the progress made by St. Kitts and Nevis and their personal achievements.

“I invite you to continue on the journey that we started in 1995 and which, we would not wish to end short of the goal of completely transforming our society into a haven of hope and happiness for the benefit of all of our people,” said the Prime Minister.
