BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – JUST 21 hours into the New Year and approximately 15 hours after the twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis recorded its first shooting-death for 2010, another man is nursing a gunshot wound in Nevis.
Information reaching SKNVibes states that Bevon Richards of Cotton Ground was shot in the neck last night (Jan. 1) and is currently warded in stable condition at the Alexandra Hospital.
When contacted this morning, Acting Commander of the Nevis Division of the Royal St. Christopher-Nevis Police Force, Inspector Hilroy Brandy told this media house that Richards was shot while attending a birthday party.
“Following a report of the shooting incident, investigations revealed that while at a birthday party in Brown Pasture, some attendees claimed to have heard a sound similar to that of a firecracker. Immediately after the sound they saw Richards fell and, on checking, they realised he was shot in the neck. He was taken to the Alexandra Hospital in a privately-owned vehicle, where he is warded in stable condition,” Brandy said.
He also informed that investigations revealed that Richards’ attacker had fired the shot from a bushy area within proximity of the birthday party’s venue.
Inspector Brandy said that no one has so far been held responsible for the crime but investigations are ongoing.
Yesterday, shortly after 6:00 a.m., 26-year-old Keithon Stanley of Cole Hill was killed execution-style within a building in Craddock Road, Charlestown, Nevis.
This media house learnt that while Stanley was at his girlfriend’s home in Craddock Road, he was allegedly summoned by an uncle to take a message to someone who also lives in the same vicinity. However, while there, he was shot to the temple, which resulted in his death.
So far, no one has been held for this incident; however, investigations continue.
Last year, 27 people were murdered; the highest ever recorded in the history of St. Kitts and Nevis, and the first victim was 17-year-old Isimba ‘Ratty’ Bradley who was shot on January 10 while walking in Central Street in the vicinity of Pizza Place.
