By: Suelika N. Creque, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts- THE Grand Masters Band has for the third consecutive year captured the National Carnival Road March title with their 2009/2010 tune ‘Buss U Bubble’.

The band won the title in 2007/08 with ‘Boom Bam Bam’ and followed up with ‘A Wan Whale’ in 2008/09. ‘Buss U Bubble’ is from the band’s most recent album ‘Mek Dem Surrender’ which earned the members a total of 21 points to cop the Road March title.

The other bands that contended for the Road March crown were Small Axe with ‘Show Me Your Muscle’, earning them 15 points; Nu Vybes’ tallying 14 points with ‘Rock it up’; and Kollision with12 points playing ‘Bounce Pon it’.

The first ever four-peat Calypso King of St. Kitts and Nevis, Konris Maynard, also won four points for his song ‘Take the Oath’.

Grand Masters victory marks the third time a band or artiste has ever won the Road March title three times or more in a row. Small Axe was the first band to 3-peated.

This success was achieved in 1988-1990, while King Ellie Matt was the first and only artiste whose song has won the Road March title four consecutive times - 1976-1979.

Although the Grand Masters Band officially won the Road March title, the Nu Vybes Band was declared winner of the People’s Choice for Road March Texting promotion organised by LIME and SKNVibes.com with 51%.

Some people felt that the Nu Vybes Band, which had the most support, should have won the Road March title and a different system needs to be in place for next year’s competition.
