Warriors blow away Hurricanes to book final spot

By: Global Super League, Press Release

July 16th, 2025 -- Guyana Amazon Warriors booked their place in the final of the ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSL) after defeating Hobart Hurricanes XI by 4 wickets (with 21 balls remaining) on Wednesday evening at Providence.

Cheered on by a home crowd, the Warriors chased down the Hurricanes below par total of 125 to finish the evening top of the tournament table on a superior run rate albeit their opponents in Saturday’s final, defending champions Rangpur Riders, sit level on points with a game in hand.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first the Hurricanes stuttered to their total with five of their batting card making double figures but none kicking on to make a score of real significance.

Fabian Allen top scored with the bat with 28 off 20 deliveries that included two big sixes but when he fell to the wily Imran Tahir at the end of the 16th over the Hurricanes chances of setting a commanding total drifted away.

Player of the match Gudakesh Motie spun a web for the Warriors, finishing with impressive figures of 3/9 off just 3.1 overs and later chipping in with 19 off 13 with the bat.

A couple of early wickets gave the Hurricanes hope but their chances of pulling off an improbable win were soon snuffed out by a the experienced hands of Moeen Ali – who finished unbeaten on 30 off 36 balls and a destructive innings by Shimron Hetmyer who blazed six sixes into the Guyana night sky to break the back of the run chase in a matter of balls, scoring 39 runs off just ten deliveries at a phenomenal strike rate.

Just a few overs later and the match was in the bag for the Warriors.

A mouthwatering contest between the defending champs versus the home side lies in wait at the weekend to see who will take the spoils in this year’s GSL.
