CHARLESTOWN, Nevis — POLICE have launched an investigation into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 27-year-old Xavier Dore of Pot Works, Nevis, late last night (Jul. 29), sparking renewed concerns over gun violence across the Federation.
According to a police statement issued today (July 30), the incident occurred between 8:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. in the Liburd Hill area. Officers from the Newcastle Police Station responded to a report of a suspected fatal accident along the Island Main Road near the Methodist Church.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Dore's lifeless body on the roadside next to a damaged motor scooter. A closer examination of the scene revealed several spent shells nearby, prompting investigators to classify the case as a homicide.
Police reported that Dore sustained injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. Preliminary investigations suggest he was ambushed and shot multiple times while riding his scooter in the direction of his home. After being shot, he reportedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a utility box. He died at the scene.
This incident brings the number of homicides in the Federation for the year to six.
The shooting has raised fresh questions about how illegal firearms are entering the country undetected. Authorities have noted that many of these weapons are being used in serious crimes, including murder.
Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward as investigations continue.
