Bridgetown, Barbados — 3rd August 2025 – The Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) and the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC) have formalised a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen regional media and communications collaboration across the Caribbean and beyond.

Signed on 3rd June 2025 by Mr. Rodney Taylor, Secretary-General of the CTU, and Mrs. Lori Weatherhead, Administrative Office and Team Leader of the Caribbean Media Corporation. The agreement signals a strategic media partnership aimed at enhancing the visibility and global reach of Caribbean content. The partnership is initially set to run from 1st January to 31st December 2025, with the possibility of renewal through mutual agreement.

Under the terms of the MoU, both Parties will collaborate to promote each other's visibility and expand regional business opportunities. The CTU will grant CMC official membership status and promote CMC as one of its official media partners. CMC will, in turn: provide the CTU with access to CANANews, provide logistical support for CTU regional events, and promote the CTU through its online media platforms.

Importantly, the partnership will enable the CTU to leverage CMC’s CaribVision broadcast infrastructure to deliver Caribbean content to audiences across the African continent via a subscription-based distribution model. This collaboration aims to position Caribbean voices in new international media markets and build stronger media linkages between the Caribbean and Africa.

Speaking on the partnership, Secretary-General Rodney Taylor stated, “This MoU aligns with the CTU’s commitment to deepening regional integration and expanding the Caribbean’s digital footprint globally. Through our collaboration with CMC, we hope to create lasting value by promoting Caribbean narratives and fostering greater connectivity across the region.”

The CMC Team Leader, Mrs. Weatherhead said “the Caribbean Media Corporation, with its footprint across 16 CARICOM countries and reaching seven million households, believes that a strategic partnership with the CTU augurs well for the population of the Caribbean particularly in an age where technology is the bedrock for sustainability.

“Our partnership with the CTU is yet another avenue for the CMC to offer another service to the Caribbean as this strategic alliance is expected to enhance Caribbean content production, support regional development goals and open new pathways for media partnerships, particularly within emerging African markets.”
