    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IN commemoration of its 10th year in existence independent to the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, the St. Kitts Nevis Fire and Rescue Services is currently hosting a week of activities.

    The week, as indicated in a communiqué issued by the Tenth Anniversary Committee, began on January 3 and would run until January 10.

    Organisers of the event indicated that in addition to marking the entity’s 10th Anniversary, the activities are aimed as engaging “the community as to create a greater bond with each other.  Officers from the Fire and Rescue Services will have the pleasure of socialising not only with their peers (with whom) they currently work but with all their peers in the organisation.”

    Commencing the week, officers on St. Kitts joined members of the Antioch Baptist Church during their morning worship on Sunday, January 3, 2010. Simultaneously, officers on Nevis joined the Pastor and members of the Eden Brown Church of God at their Sunday morning worship service.

    Yesterday, members of the public were invited to visit the Basseterre Fire Station to familiarise themselves with the officers stationed there as well as the equipment utilised by the Fire and Rescue Branches of the Service.

    In addition to that activity, persons were welcomed to witness “drill displays” held on both islands.

    Earlier this morning, as a part of their Community Day, officers attached to the different Fire Stations on St. Kitts took to the Camps roundabout to begin a clean-up and beautification project there.

    Fire Sub-Station Officer Clarence Hendrickson told SKNVibes that the roundabout was adopted by the Fire Department and henceforth would be responsible for the aesthetics of the area.

    He said the officers began the cleaning process this morning and would continue during today’s early evening hours.

    Fire Officers on Nevis celebrated their Community Day in a different manner. They paid a visit to residents of the St. Georges Senior Citizens Home, which houses persons who made invaluable contributions to the moral fiber of our society.

    Other activities to take place during the week are:

    Wednesday 6 - Kiddies Jamboree to be at the Newtown Playing Field in St. Kitts from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.;

    Thursday 7 - Domino competition to be held at the Basseterre Fire Station at 8:00 p.m.;

    Friday 8 - Banquet/Awards ceremony to be held at the Royal St. Kitts Hotel and Casino at 8:00 p.m.;

    Organisers reiterated that the week of activities was crafted with the public in mind and is a perfect opportunity for youths to be positively influenced, motivated and guided, especially in a time when “negativity (is) plaguing the Federation”.
