Sandy Point Benevolent Society Unveils 2025 Scholarship Recipients - Charting the Future of Caribbean Leadership

By: SPBS, Press Release

New York, August 26, 2025 – The Sandy Point Benevolent Society (SPBS) is thrilled to announce the recipients of its 2025 scholarships. These accomplished individuals represent a remarkable blend of academic excellence, community devotion, and transformative vision - exemplifying SPBS’s enduring commitment to nurturing dynamic leaders across the Caribbean.

    2025 Scholarship Recipients

    Kevington Pemberton

SPBS Sir Hugh and Lady Claudette Rawlins Graduate Scholarship

Track: Diploma in Pastoral Ministry at UTCWI & Bachelor of Arts in Theology, UWI Mona Kevington is deeply committed to weaving theological scholarship, spiritual formation, and practical ministry into a tapestry of healing and hope. In a region grappling with crime, fractured families, and youth disenchantment, he envisions the Church not only as a spiritual haven but as a proactive community partner. Kevington is preparing for roles that encompass preaching, youth mentorship, family strengthening, and pastoral care—while forging strategic alliances with schools, social services, and governmental entities. His aim is to ensure congregations are both Christ-centered and community-empowering engines of transformation. Upon completing his education, Kevington plans to serve within the Leeward Islands District of the MCCA, carrying forward a bold vision of holistic ministry that champions spiritual formation, social justice, and national renewal.

    Ashaun Brown

    SPBS Ridley Guishard Memorial Scholarship

Track: B.Sc. in Biology (Minor: Data Science), University of the Virgin Islands Ashaun’s journey began with a boundless curiosity about the natural world - a curiosity nurtured by science literature that dared him to imagine untold discoveries. At the University of the Virgin Islands, he’s pursuing Biology alongside a Data Science minor, recognizing the critical convergence of scientific understanding and technological literacy. With aims to specialize in genetics, he aspires to fuel advances in human health and longevity. The SPBS Undergraduate Scholarship promises to relieve the financial pressure of tuition, travel, and overseas study logistics - especially significant given the currency disparities facing students from St. Kitts and Nevis. By alleviating this strain, the scholarship affords Ashaun the freedom to focus wholly on his studies, deepen his involvement in SPBS’s mentorship program, and continue uplifting peers through guidance rooted in empathy and personal experience.

    Sharim Hamilton

    SPBS Undergraduate Scholarship

Track: Sports Management, Lincoln University For Sharim, sports management is not merely academic but a vehicle for societal uplift, unity, and economic spark. He believes that well-managed sports programs can ignite community pride, foster healthy habits, and catalyze economic gains through sports-related initiatives. The scholarship will allow him to immerse himself in intensive coursework and pursue hands-on internships without financial distraction. Upon graduation, Sharim aims to revitalize sports infrastructure and programming in underserved regions, launching youth-centric initiatives that ensure equal participation, talent development, and community wellness. His passion is rooted in leveraging sports as a transformative force for equity and connection.

    Shaquanah Jeffers

    SPBS Verchilds High School Scholarship

Track: Medical Biology, University of South Dakota

Shaquanah’s ambition is to “bring medical research home” - transforming St. Kitts, and the Caribbean at large, into research-rich environments where health solutions are driven by local data and community insight. In Dr. Andre Liebl’s DNA methylation lab, she is immersed in cutting-edge research that deciphers how gene expression governs behavior - paving the way for breakthroughs in chronic illness and mental health understanding. Despite encountering a housing crisis that challenged her academic equilibrium, the SPBS scholarship renewed her trajectory - improving her GPA, research involvement, and focus. She now aims to create independent research capacities in St. Kitts, enabling region-specific medical discoveries, homegrown treatments, and science-driven policymaking. Shaquanah is committed to not just studying medicine but leading its evolution in Caribbean contexts.

    Zubaidah Springer

    SPBS Carol Freeman Scholarship

Track: Legal Education Certificate, Norman Manley Law School Hailing from Saddlers Village, Zubaidah has consistently stood out both academically and as a community catalyst. After earning an LL.B. with Upper Second Class Honors from UWI Cave Hill and serving in key leadership roles in student governance, she established Top Tier Academy to provide academic support and youth programming. Her “each one teach one” ethos resonates through tutoring sessions, back-to-school initiatives, and community sports festivals. Now pursuing her Legal Education Certificate, Zubaidah intends to become both an Attorney-at-Law and a lecturer at CFBC, investing in the next generation of Caribbean legal minds with determination and resilience.
