BVI London Office Director visits Territory to update officials

    Tuesday, January 5 – The Director of the BVI London Office, Mr. Kedrick Malone, is presently in the Territory to give a progress report since his recent appointment, and has already begun a full week of meetings with various public and private sector officials. 
     
    He has held meetings with His Excellency the Governor Mr. David Pearey,  Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal, Permanent Secretary in the Premier’s Office Mrs. Rosalie Adams and Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Culture, Mrs. Carolyn O’Neal Williams. Mr. Malone will also update the Caucus today when he makes a presentation to that body.
     
    Mr. Malone will be a guest on tonight’s GIS Public Eye programme, which is live on ZBVI 780AM and CBN Channel 51 at 7 o’clock. He will be updating the public about the various projects being undertaken by the BVI London Office and to give more information about the office’s responsibilities and key functions. Persons who wish to learn more about the work of the BVI London Office can call in to the programme at 468-2355, or email their questions to gis@gov.vg.
     
    While here Mr. Malone will also meet with Dr. Karl Dawson, President of the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College; Mr. Dean Greenaway, Secretary General of the BVI Olympic Committee to discuss matters regarding the 2012 Olympic Project and Mr. Cecil Hodge, President of the BVI Teachers Union. On Wednesday, the public will have another opportunity to learn more about the BVI London Office when Mr. Malone will appear as a guest on the talk show: “The People’s Business” with Mr. Elihu Rhymer on ZBVI 780 AM.  The next day, Mr. Malone will give a presentation at the Heads of Department meeting.
     
    In speaking of the planned events and meetings, Mr. Malone said that it is his intention “to increase the awareness among civil servants, the business community and the general public of the role and functions of the BVI London Office.” He also said that his objective is to inform the public about the impact of the UK and EU on the future of BVI and how the BVI London Office can assist these various stakeholders with related matters.
     
    The Director has a background of over 20 years in the public and private sector. He is a former Director of the BVI Tourist Board and former deputy secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office. He also served as the Territory’s first Film Commissioner and Chairman of the BVI Chamber of Commerce and Hotel Association.
     
    The BVI London Office was established in 2002 and also serves as headquarters for official visits to the UK/European region and supports Virgin Islanders living and studying in Britain. The BVI London Office falls under the management of the Premier’s Office.
