BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – PERSONS convicted at the District ‘A’ Magistrate Court on Monday (Jan. 4) were ordered to pay almost $4 000 in fines and compensation or face imprisonment.
Jason Eddy of New Pond Site appeared before Her Worship Josephine Mallelieu-Webbe on a charge of beating his ex-girlfriend, Simone Stapleton of Cayon; an offence which was committed on August 29, 2009.
Upon conviction, he was ordered to pay a $500 fine on the condition that should the fine be paid within the specified time, the conviction would be erased from his record.
Lisimba Huggins of Saddlers Village was convicted of a December 26 incident of “throwing missiles” and was ordered to pay a $1 000 fine in one month or serve a three-month custodial sentence. The incident transpired at the Bus/Ferry Terminal, Basseterre.
‘West’, legally known as Elvis Huggins, was handed a $500 fine which has to be paid within five weeks or, in default, serve two months imprisonment with hard labour. The Upper Market Street resident was convicted for “causing malicious damage” to a motor pickup, the property of Leroy McMahon of Upper Market Street. Huggins was also ordered to pay McMahon $115 as compensation. This amount is to be paid in two weeks or he will have to serve 14 days at Her Majesty’s Prison.
Newton Ground resident Yvette Elliott was convicted of “simple larceny” from Cisco’s Place and was fined $600 to be paid within three months or serve one month imprisonment.
Her Worship Mallelieu-Webbe also ordered that Elliott is to pay $1 109 compensation to the virtual complainant within the next month. Failure to pay that sum would result in her having to serve six months behind bars.
