GEORGETOWN, Guyana -- THE St. Kitts-Nevis Patriots kept their playoff hopes alive with a narrow five-run victory over the Guyana Amazon Warriors at the Providence Stadium on Sunday night.
Needing a win to stay in contention, the Patriots struggled early with the bat, managing a modest 149/6 from their 20 overs. Pakistani opener Mohammad Rizwan anchored the innings with a patient yet commanding 85 from 62 deliveries, hitting eight boundaries and three sixes as wickets tumbled around him. Gudakesh Motie and Hassan Khan were the pick of the Warriors’ bowlers, claiming two wickets each.
The Warriors, who won the toss and chose to bowl first on a sluggish surface, looked on course in their chase but faltered in the closing stages. A disciplined bowling display from the Patriots ensured wickets were shared evenly, sealing a well-earned win. Shai Hope top-scored for the hosts with 31, while Naseem Shah and Waqar Salamkheil both bagged two wickets apiece for the visitors.
The result lifts the Patriots into fifth place on the points table with six points from nine matches, while the Warriors remain in fourth on eight points from seven games.
Action resumes tomorrow evening when the Antigua-Barbuda Falcons take on the Guyana Amazon Warriors at 7:00 p.m. at the Providence Stadium.
