GEORGETOWN, Guyana – THE Antigua and Barbuda Falcons celebrated a four wicket win over the Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, after chasing a modest target of 100 with birthday boy Jayden Seales starring with the ball.
The Falcons won the toss and opted to field, and once again the Warriors’ fragile top order faltered. Moeen Ali fell for 10 in the fourth over, before Ben McDermott (14) and Shimron Hetmyer (0) both departed inside the powerplay, leaving GAW reeling at 26/3.
Shai Hope briefly counterattacked with a quickfire 26 from 14, but his dismissal sparked another collapse. Hasan Khan’s unlucky run out, Gudakesh Motie’s misjudgment, and steady strikes from Usama Mir (3/18) and Shakib Al Hasan left the Warriors tottering at 58/6 after 10 overs.
The slide continued, with Keemo Paul, Romario Shepherd, and Dwaine Pretorius falling cheaply. A late 21-run stand between Quentin Sampson (20) and Imran Tahir (2) nudged the Warriors to 99, before Seales (4/15) wrapped up the innings with his career-best CPL figures.
Despite defending a low total, the Warriors started brightly when Andries Gous fell in the first over. Imran Tahir then struck twice in quick succession, trapping Kevin Wickham (13) and Karima Gore (0) lbw to reduce the Falcons to 24/4. Moeen Ali added further pressure, removing Shakib Al Hasan and Shamar Springer, as the Falcons crawled to 50/5 at the halfway stage.
But Amir Jangoo anchored the chase superbly. After a cautious rebuild with Imad Wasim (16), Jangoo cut loose late in the innings. He smashed Hassan Khan for six to ease the nerves and brought up his half-century with another towering six in the 19th over, guiding the Falcons to victory.
The win keeps them in the hunt for a playoff spot. Action continues tomorrow evening.
