September 13th, 2025 -- On September 11, Ambassador Edward Tao visited the Solid Waste Management Corporation (SWMC) recycling plant in St. Kitts with Embassy Secretary Tina Lin, Taiwan Technical Mission Leader Roy Lo, and Project Manager Joyce Chang.
SWMC General Manager Nelvin Maynard warmly welcomed the delega-tion and led a comprehensive tour of the facility. Over the past four years, Tai-wan’s technical expertise and support have boosted the plant’s waste-management efficiency and transformed household refuse into sustainable re-sources for the Federation.
Mr. Maynard celebrated the imminent export of a third container of recycled plastic bricks before year’s end—an achievement that highlights both the eco-nomic and environmental benefits of the program. He also projected increased exports in 2026 as the plant expands operations in collaboration with the Tai-wan International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) and the Embassy.
Ambassador Tao commended the Taiwan Technical Mission for its dedication and underscored recycling’s potential to generate revenue while safeguarding natural resources. He shared Taiwan’s experience in turning waste management into thriving business ventures and stressed the importance of sustained bilateral cooperation.
After the site visit, Ambassador Tao recorded a video message for local media, spotlighting the recycling initiative and announcing the National School Recy-cling Competition. The contest aims to spark creativity among students and deepen public engagement in environmental stewardship.
Taiwan remains dedicated to advancing St. Kitts and Nevis’s Sustainable Island State Agenda (SISA), fostering innovation in green technology, and delivering lasting benefits for future generations.
