GEORGETOWN, Guyana – THE St. Kitts-Nevis Patriots’ hopes of advancing in the 2025 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) came to an end on Saturday afternoon, as the Guyana Amazon Warriors pulled off a thrilling two-wicket victory over the Saint Lucia Kings at the Providence Stadium.
Match 29 delivered all the drama fans expect from the CPL, climaxing with a last-ball six that confirmed the Warriors’ spot in the playoffs while officially eliminating the Patriots.
Batting first after winning the toss, the Kings lost opener Tim Seifert in the second over to Gudakesh Motie, before Johnson Charles fell for 16 off Dwaine Pretorius in the fourth. Roston Chase quickly shifted momentum, hammering two fours and two sixes in Moeen Ali’s fifth over, pushing Saint Lucia to 50 runs. Alongside Ackeem Auguste, who added two boundaries in the sixth, the Kings closed the powerplay strongly at 64–2.
Auguste, dropped on 30 early in the 10th over, went on to blast two sixes off Hassan Khan before reaching his second half-century of the season against the Warriors. His 29-ball fifty was followed immediately by his dismissal to Imran Tahir, ending a 90-run partnership with Chase.
Chase, however, remained the anchor, bringing up his half-century with a flurry of boundaries in the 14th over. Tim David’s early departure for 3 left more pressure on the captain, but Chase carried the innings, finishing unbeaten on 90 from 55 balls (6 fours, 5 sixes). The Kings closed at 185–4, after managing just 43 runs in the final overs.
The Warriors responded strongly in the chase, reaching 55 in the powerplay with only Ben McDermott (16) back in the pavilion. Opening for the first time this season, Quinton Sampson lit up the stadium with a maiden CPL half-century, reaching the milestone in 27 balls with seven fours and two sixes. At the halfway mark, Guyana stood at 93–1, keeping pace with the required run rate.
From there, the Warriors held their nerve and sealed victory in spectacular fashion, sending the Providence crowd into raptures.
With the win, the Amazon Warriors locked in the final playoff berth and will wrap up the league phase against the Barbados Royals on Sunday, also in Guyana.
