BASSETERRE, St. Kitts — POLICE have successfully secured the conviction of Eli Burton, a national of Dominica, who was found with a quantity of cannabis in August.
According to the police, Burton was convicted and fined for Importation of a Controlled Drug and Possession of a Controlled Drug (Cannabis) with Intent to Supply.
He was apprehended on August 25, 2025, at the Deep Water Port in Bird Rock, Basseterre, after authorities discovered the drugs in his possession.
Burton pleaded guilty to both offences and was fined $5,000 on each count, payable immediately. In default of payment, he will serve 12 months’ imprisonment.
Meanwhile, police noted that Burton also appeared before the court on two additional matters brought by the St. Kitts Customs and Excise Department relating to the Importation of Goods (Cannabis) Packed to Deceive a Customs Officer. He was convicted and cautioned for both offences.
The sentences were handed down by Her Honour Magistrate Yasmine Clarke at the Basseterre Magistrate’s Court on October 6, 2025.
