BASSETERRE, St. Kitts — WITH a new peace agreement underway between Hamas and Israel, the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has welcomed with “cautious optimism” the deal reached on the initial phase of a peace plan for Gaza.
In a statement, CARICOM described the agreement as “a critical step toward alleviating the immense suffering of the Palestinian people and ensuring the safe return of Israeli hostages.”
The regional leaders noted that the stipulated terms — including a sustained pause in hostilities, the withdrawal of military forces, the reciprocal release of hostages and prisoners, and the guarantee of immediate and safe humanitarian access — represent “constructive and fundamental” steps toward lasting peace.
CARICOM also reiterated its long-standing call for dialogue, mutual respect, and adherence to international law as the only viable path toward a permanent resolution of the conflict and the establishment of peace and stability in the region.
