St. George’s, Grenada, October 30, 2025 - The Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C), through support from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), brought together policy makers, practitioners and stakeholders from across the region, demystifying Integrated Water Resource Management while exploring wastewater reuse, as a tangible entry port for applications of IWRM principles. This was done through a special side event at the 34th Annual Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association (CWWA) Conference, held in San Pedro Belize on Thursday October 23, 2025.

The two-part session moderated by the GWP-C's Regional Coordinator- Dr. Roxanne Graham-Victor, included insights from the Global Water Partnership’s Regional IWRM Workshop in July, responding to two key regional needs- a clearer understanding of IWRM and practical examples of how it can drive sustainable water management.

Segment 1, titled “Demystifying IWRM – From Concept to Practice,” set the stage with insightful contributions from members of the GWP-C Steering Committee, Reginald Burke and Tenille Hendy, alongside Dr. Adrian Cashman, Chair of the GWP-C Technical Committee. The discussion explored how Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) can be effectively translated from theory into practical, on-the-ground action across the Caribbean.

Session 2, “Wastewater Reuse: A Working Example of Integration,” showcased innovative approaches to water sustainability. Featured presenters included Laverne Walker, Programme Officer at the UNEP Cartagena Convention; Christa-Joy Burton, Head of Policy & External Relations for the Caribbean Region at WOTA Corp; and Junior A. Mathurin, Water Specialist at the St. Lucia Water Resources Management Agency. Presentations and discussions showcased regional success stories, including experiences from the Global Environment Facility CReW+ Project, which is advancing integrated and sustainable wastewater solutions across multiple Caribbean states.

The conversation also highlighted enabling conditions for scaling up reuse — such as innovative financing models, policy incentives, and multi-stakeholder partnerships.
